The Green Willow is dedicated to the preservation and growth of Celtic and British Isles folk music. Concerts by artists from Ireland, Scotland and England are most often featured, interspersed with those from Canada, the United States, Australia, France and Spain. From Child ballads to sea music, from strathspeys to reels, the Green Willow seeks to keep alive the folk music traditions of Celtic and Anglo communities from all over the world.
The Green Willow is an incorporated, 501(c)(3) non-profit, educational organization. It is also a member of the North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance and joins with this international organization in its efforts to advocate for all kinds of folk music. The Green Willow also works with the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance and other local organizations in support of folk music. In particular, it provides volunteers and financial support for folk music programming on community radio station WVUD located at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE. WVUD broadcasts on 91.3FM, www.wvud.org and cable channel 2 in northern New Castle County, Delaware.
The Green Willow presents about one concert per month in a variety of venues throughout the greater Wilmington, Delaware area. Concerts are usually held on weeknights and feature food and drink service, free parking and discounts for 18 and under. Seating is often cabaret style.
The Green Willow celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2003. Our thanks to the patrons, venue hosts, local print & radio media and the Green Willow founders, board, staff & volunteers for maintaining a home in this area for Celtic and British Isles music since 1983.
But, of course, we especially thank the artists who continue to entertain and inspire us.
