With the recent announcement of a double nomination in the 2015 BBC Folk Awards for Folksinger of the Year and Best Song, Jez Lowe strides through his third decade as a songwriting troubadour, on the back of a new and much acclaimed album – his nineteenth – entitled The Ballad Beyond. Jez Lowe’s contributions to the ongoing BBC series The Radio Ballads has cemented his reputation, with a Sony Radio Award among the many accolades coming his way.
The year ahead will see him in front of audiences across the UK, as well as in Canada, the U.S., Spain, and Holland. Jez Lowe has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, with a mind boggling series of solo shows, with his band the Bad Pennies, at festivals, and in special projects, ensuring that he is one of the busiest and most in demand performers on the current acoustic music scene.
Richard Thompson has called him “The best singer songwriter to come out of the UK for a long time,” and personally invited him to play at Thompson’s Meltdown Festival in London. As BBC Radio DJ Mike Harding said recently, ” No one else sounds or writes like Jez Lowe, and chances are, even if you’ve never heard the man himself, you’ll have heard his songs sung by the great and good, the professional or enthusiast, the young and not so young. What higher accolade could a songwriter hope for?”
